A proposal on reasoning methods in fuzzy rule-based classification systems

    Get PDF
AbstractFuzzy Rule-Based Systems have been succesfully applied to pattern classification problems. In this type of classification systems, the classical Fuzzy Reasoning Method (FRM) classifies a new example with the consequent of the rule with the greatest degree of association. By using this reasoning method, we lose the information provided by the other rules with different linguistic labels which also represent this value in the pattern attribute, although probably to a lesser degree. The aim of this paper is to present new FRMs which allow us to improve the system performance, maintaining its interpretability. The common aspect of the proposals is the participation, in the classification of the new pattern, of the rules that have been fired by such pattern. We formally describe the behaviour of a general reasoning method, analyze six proposals for this general model, and present a method to learn the parameters of these FRMs by means of Genetic Algorithms, adapting the inference mechanism to the set of rules. Finally, to show the increase of the system generalization capability provided by the proposed FRMs, we point out some results obtained by their integration in a fuzzy rule generation process

Analysis and Optimization of Multi-Winding Toroidal Inductors for Use in Multilayered Technologies

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to compare the performance of planar toroidal inductors and circular spiral inductors in multilayered technologies, in terms of achievable inductance density. New multi-winding toroidal inductor geometry is proposed to cover as much of the integration area as possible with the component footprint. The optimization of planar multi-winding toroidal inductors in multilayered substrates is investigated theoretically, and closed formulae are derived for their inductances as a function of geometrical parameters for any given value of the number of windings in the coil. The model obtained is validated experimentally and through electromagnetic simulation. Comparing the inductance of multi-winding toroidal inductors and compact spiral inductors allows us to update previously reported selection rules for the most suitable topology that leads to the most compact design

The Effect of Cr Concentration on Defect Energies in FeCr Alloys

    Get PDF
FeCr ferritic alloys are leading candidates for structural applications in generation IV fission reactors due to their high resistance to swelling and corrosion. The addition of Cr improves the behavior of the steels under irradiation, but this improvement is non-monotonic. Understandig the changes in the FeCr ferritic alloys microstructure induced by irradiation and the role played by the alloying element (Cr) is needed in order to predict the response of these materials under the extreme conditions in the future nuclear plants. In this work, we present the effect of Cr concentration in a bcc Fe matrix on binding and formation energies of vacancy clusters

A view on Fuzzy Systems for big data: progress and opportunities

Currently, we are witnessing a growing trend in the study and application of problems in the framework of Big Data. This is mainly due to the great advantages which come from the knowledge extraction from a high volume of information. For this reason, we observe a migration of the standard Data Mining systems towards a new functional paradigm that allows at working with Big Data. By means of the MapReduce model and its different extensions, scalability can be successfully addressed, while maintaining a good fault tolerance during the execution of the algorithms. Among the different approaches used in Data Mining, those models based on fuzzy systems stand out for many applications. Among their advantages, we must stress the use of a representation close to the natural language. Additionally, they use an inference model that allows a good adaptation to different scenarios, especially those with a given degree of uncertainty. Despite the success of this type of systems, their migration to the Big Data environment in the different learning areas is at a preliminary stage yet. In this paper, we will carry out an overview of the main existing proposals on the topic, analyzing the design of these models. Additionally, we will discuss those problems related to the data distribution and parallelization of the current algorithms, and also its relationship with the fuzzy representation of the information. Finally, we will provide our view on the expectations for the future in this framework according to the design of those methods based on fuzzy sets, as well as the open challenges on the topicSpanish Ministry of Science and Technology under project TIN2014-57251-P; the Andalusian Research Plan P11-TIC-7765; and both the University of Ja´en and Caja Rural Provincial de Ja´en under project UJA2014/06/15

We present a comparative study between two empirical potentials for the study of FeCr alloys. Vacancy, self- and mixed interstitials formation energies are investigated for both potentials in pure bcc Fe and pure bcc Cr. These results are compared to DFT values reported in literature. Some small Cr clusters in substitutional positions have also been studied in bcc Fe. Finally we have performed some calculations of the vacancy formation energy (Ev) depending on Cr concentration

    Get PDF
Sound Absorption Properties of Perforated Recycled Polyurethane Foams Reinforced with Woven Fabric

[EN] The acoustic properties of recycled polyurethane foams are well known. Such foams are used as a part of acoustic solutions in different fields such as building or transport. This paper aims to seek improvements in the sound absorption of these recycled foams when they are combined with fabrics. For this aim, foams have been drilled with cylindrical perforations, and also combined with different fabrics. The effect on the sound absorption is evaluated based on the following key parameters: perforation rate (5% and 20%), aperture size (4 mm and 6 mm), and a complete perforation depth. Experimental measurements were performed by using an impedance tube for the characterization of its acoustic behavior. Sound absorption of perforated samples is also studied¿numerically by finite element simulations, where the viscothermal losses were considered; and analytically by using models for the perforated foam and the fabric. Two textile fabrics were used in combination with perforated polyurethane samples. Results evidence a modification of the sound absorption at mid frequencies employing fabrics that have a membrane-type acoustic response. This research was financially supported by the Ministry of Economy and Innovation (MINECO) and the European Union FEDER through project FIS2015-65998-C2-2 and by projects AICO/2016/060 and ACIF/2017/073 by Regional Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of the Generalitat Valenciana and with the support of European Structural Investment Funds (ESIF-European Union).Atiénzar-Navarro, R.; Rey Tormos, RMD.; Alba, J.; Sánchez Morcillo, VJ.; Picó Vila, R. Amelioration of Ischemic brain damage by peritoneal dialysis

    Get PDF
Ischemic stroke is a devastating condition, for which there is still no effective therapy. Acute ischemic stroke is associated with high concentrations of glutamate in the blood and interstitial brain fluid. The inability of the tissue to retain glutamate within the cells of the brain ultimately provokes neuronal death. Increased concentrations of interstitial glutamate exert further excitotoxic effects on healthy tissue surrounding the infarct zone. We developed a strategy based on peritoneal dialysis to reduce blood glutamate levels, thereby accelerating brain-to-blood glutamate clearance. In a rat model of stroke, this simple procedure reduced the transient increase in glutamate, consequently decreasing the size of the infarct area. Functional magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated that the rescued brain tissue remained functional. Moreover, in patients with kidney failure, peritoneal dialysis significantly decreased glutamate concentrations. Our results suggest that peritoneal dialysis may represent a simple and effective intervention for human stroke patientsThis work was supported by grants from the Spanish MINECO to J.
